The NBL Canada was founded in 2011, when three teams formerly of the Premier Basketball League joined with four new franchises to form the NBL's "Original Seven". The National Basketball League of Canada is practically not a continuation of National Basketball League (Canada) which played in 1993-94, despite both league share the same abbreviation NBL Canada.
