Austin Spurs win NBA G League championship - Apr 11, 2018

The Austin Spurs dominated the Raptors 905, 98-76, in game 2 of the NBA G League finals to take their second championship in franchise history at Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario on Tuesday night. Five Spurs scored in double figures as Austin shot 43 percent while no Raptor scored more than 12 points. Nick Johnson (6'3''-G-92, college: Arizona) came off the bench and scored 17, including a thunderous alley-oop dunk in the fourth quarter, on his way to winning a title and being named G League finals MVP. Up 88-66 with over five minutes to play, Julian Washburn (6'9''-SF-91, college: UTEP) blocked a shot to send Olivier Hanlan (6'4''-G-93, college: Boston Coll.) and Johnson on a fast break. Hanlan's pass found its mark as Johnson's left-handed jam put an exclamation point on the game. The Raptors opened the game with a 12-5 lead, but after Jeff Ledbetter put Austin up 13-12 the Spurs stayed ahead the rest of the way. Ledbetter finished with 16 points, connecting on 4-of-6 from 3-point range. The oldest member of the Spurs provided a spark off the bench and led Austin in scoring heading into the final period. Jaron Blossomgame (6'7''-F-93, college: Clemson) had a double-double for the Spurs, scoring 15 points to go with 10 rebounds. Hanlan finished with 14 points and seven assists. Rookie first-round draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs Derrick White (6'5''-G-94, college: Colorado), who led Austin with 35 points in game 1, chipped in nine points, five rebounds and six assists. Despite shooting just 4-of-18 from the field, he provided defensive energy, making four steals and blocking a shot. Malcolm Miller (6'7''-F-93, college: Holy Cross) and Kaza Keane each scored 12 for the home team. Lorenzo Brown had a double-double, scoring 11 points and collecting 10 rebounds for the Raptors. The Spurs are champions for the second time in the history of the NBA's development league. Their first title came as the Austin Toros in 2012 of the NBA D-League.
