Streak Snapped!- January 10, 2024The Douglas Royals are finally back in the win column after a 16-point victory over the visiting Langara Falcons on Saturday evening. They blasted out of the gate outscoring the Falcons 24-16 in the first quarter and were able to withstand a surge late in the game to secure the win. The Royals shot 44% from the field and knocked down an impressive 15-three-point shots. Jerome Verchez (6'2''-G) led all scorers with 29 points and Jeevan Sidhu hit six-threes and finished with 24 points as the starters combined for 71 of their 90 points. Gurak Sran compiled a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards. On the other side, the Falcons didn’t get the push like they did on Friday night. They shot 39% with Moeiz Athaya (6'5''-F/G) leading the way with 17 points and Royce Sargeant (5'9''-PG) dropped in 16. The Royals victory snapped their 11-game losing streak and they have sole possession of the final playoff spot, but there is still plenty of basketball to be played. Next weekend the Royals (3-11) visit VIU Mariners (11-1) and the Falcons (6-8) welcome the Capilano Blues (5-7).
