Humber Wins 17th OCAA Championship-Mar 9, 2026
The OCAA Men's Basketball Championship completed Saturday evening at St. Clair College's campus SportsPlex in Windsor and Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke) won their 17th title and third gold medal in the last five years dispatching Mohawk College (Hamilton) in the tournament finale by a score of 80-67.
Mohawk held a slim 39-38 lead at the half in a game that saw seven ties and nine lead changes. But Humber seized control in the middle of the third quarter with a 12-3 run that put it ahead at 54-45 which was an advantage it would not relinquish. Humber would stave off a late Mohawk run that cut the deficit to 73-67 with just under three minutes to play but were able to salt away the game at the free throw line to begin its championship celebration.
Mohawk's Player of the Game Award went to Marko Dosen (6'8''-F-2001, college: Garden City) (Hamilton) who scored 20 points while adding five rebounds and three assists who was later named a Championship All-Star team selection. Dwayne Burke (6'4''-SG) (Whitby) was chosen as Humber's Player of the Game after sterling defence to go with 12 points, six rebounds, three steals and an assist.
Championship Most Valuable Player choice Adrian Aluyi (6'6''-SF) (Toronto) scored a game-high 22 points for Humber and nearly recorded a double-double with nine rebounds. Malik Grant (6'6''-PF, college: Humber) (Brampton) joined his Humber teammates on the Championship All-Star team and netted 16 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Jerry Mercury (6'4''-G) (Scarborough) had 16 points to secure a spot on the Championship All-Star team and help Mohawk to a silver medal and also added six rebounds and three assists.
Loyalist College (Belleville) was no match for host St. Clair College in the bronze medal game as the Saints shot nearly 60 per cent from the field and made 12 triples for a 119-92 victory. St. Clair scored 62 points in the paint and led wire to wire for its fourth OCAA medal in the last five years.
Fifth-year St. Clair forward Mazin Tiea (6'7''-F, college: Wayne Co. CC) (Windsor) was named Player of the Game and part of the Championship All-Star team in his final collegiate basketball game after scoring a game-high 28 points on 12-of-14 shooting while adding seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.
