Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League (2010-2011)
The Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League (ACPBL) was founded in 2010. Teams were located up and down the Atlantic Coast from New York to Northern Virginia.
On Sunday, March 27, the ACPBL Championship Game pitted the ACPBL #2 seeded Garden State Rebels from the state of New Jersey vs. the hometown ACPBL #1 seeded Norfolk Tru Hope Trailblazers in front of a very large crowd at Atlantic Shores Christian School in Chesapeake, Virginia. The majority of the first half was controlled by the heavy favorite #1 seed Norfolk Tru Hope Trailblazers. The underdogs from New Jersey would scrap, fight and claw their way back in the game to cut the deficit to only 3 points at the half. The scrappy fighters from New Jersey would carry their late first half momentum into the 2nd half of the game and share multiple lead changes with the Trailblazers for the entire 2nd half of the game. The Norfolk Tru Hope Trailblazers led by 3-points when the smart veteran Bernard Clark (6'1''-G) (10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) of the Garden State Rebels was able to bate a Tru Hope defender into fouling him while attempting a 3-point shot with just 1.8 seconds left in regulation. Bernard Clark went to the line with hundreds of Trailblazers fans screaming, yelling and stomping on the bleachers, and with ice water in his veins hit all 3 foul shots to send the game into overtime. Overtime was a lot like the 2nd half of the game with several lead changes. With the game knotted at 93-93, the Garden State Rebels top scorer Justin Carter (6'3''-G, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Rutgers-Newark) (17 points, 3 rebounds) sank a 25-foot 3-point shot with just 24 seconds remaining in the game for a 96-93 lead. Tears started to fall from some of the Norfolk Tru Hope Trailblazers fans eyes, as Justin Carter appeared to spoil the party for the hometown fans. The only problem for the Rebels was that the Norfolk Tru Hope Trailblazers did not quit. A couple quick steals and turnovers culminated by a Donnie Stith (6'7''-F-85, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Tulane) (37 points, 8 rebounds) thunderous dunk put the Trailblazers up 97-96 with 7 seconds remaining in the game. The Garden State Rebels were able to get off two shots in the last few seconds of overtime but both shots fell short as they were well defended by the Trailblazers. 'This was a 48 minute heavy weight prize fight, I dont feel either team lost today, the Rebels just ran out of time', stated ACPBL commissioner James R. Schutz 'Hats off to Finals MVP Donnie Stith of the Norfolk Tru Hope Trailblazers who played the best game of his life'.
