ABA CANCELS REMAINDER OF SEASON - Mar 13, 2020


The American Basketball Association today announced that it has cancelled the remainder of the 2019-2020 season which will include the Final Eight, ABA Championship Game and ABA All Star Game scheduled to be played in Binghamton NY in mid-April. "These are difficult times indeed," stated ABA CEO Joe Newman . "But the health concerns of fans, players, coaches, personnel are far more important as all sports leagues, entertainment and other industries take these measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus. This will pass. We will get back to normal if people follow the sage advice of health experts and do those things that will reduce risk to themselves and others. We fully expect to begin playing again in the fall."

ABA cancels First Round of Division Playoffs - Mar 12, 2020


The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has cancelled the first round of its Divisional Playoffs scheduled to begin Saturday, March 14th. "It would be irresponsible to expose players, coaches, fans, press/media and others to the potential of catching or spreading the coronavirus," stated ABA CEO Joe Newman . "This is a national health crisis and the wise thing to do. We will evaluate the situation and determine shortly if we will have the playin rounds with or without fans and the ABA Final Eight scheduled for Binghamton NY in mid-April and will post additional information shortly. We thank our many fans for their support and encourage them to follow the guidelines for good health and hygiene set out by our very capable health experts."

ABA names 2019-2020 ABA All Star Teams - Mar 7, 2020


The American Basketball Association (ABA) today named its All Star teams for the 2019-2020 season. "This was a very difficult team to choose," stated ABA CEO. "With over 100 teams competing and nearly 2000 players, and so much outstanding talent nationwide, it was really hard to include all of the deserving players. The teams were chosen by the Division Chairman of the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, North Central, South Central and Far West Divisions and they did a terrific job under difficult circumstances."

Honorable Mentions will be announced later in the week. The two All Star teams will meet in the Annual ABA All Star game following the ABA Championship Game in Binghamton NY on Sunday, April 18. "I would really like to see either of these two teams play vs the G-League All Stars," added Newman. "Then the world would really see how great the talent is in the ABA. I guess the NBA is afraid to break the myth that the G-League is better. It isn't."
