The ABA ceased to exist in 1976 with the American Basketball Association–National Basketball Association merger in 1976, leading to four ABA teams joining the National Basketball Association and to the introduction of the 3-point shot in the NBA in 1979. The American Basketball Association is not related to other league with the same name which was opened in 2000, despite both leagues have identical name: American Basketball Association.
