| Penn State Wilkes Barre Captures First USCAA National Championship - Mar 7, 2019 |
Uniontown, PA - Penn State Wilkes Barre made history on Wednesday evening, becoming the first Penn State University Athletic Conference men's basketball program to capture a national title. The Lions earned their first USCAA National Championship on the back of tournament MVP Jordan Williams (6'9''-F/C), who had a double-double scoring 20 and bringing down 12 rebounds in their 86-64 win over Johnson & Wales University Charlotte. The Lions had four players in double figures in the title game, led by Williams and including Ameer Biddle (6'4''-G/F, college: Wytheville CC), Levaughn Knight-Soules, and Dominique Stevenson. Knight Soules, who also was an All-tournament selection had 14 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists and a steal in only 22 minutes.
After jumping out to an early 12-6 lead, the Lions' perimeter defense sucked the life out of the Wildcat offense who had combined for 24 three-pointers in their first two wins of the tournament. Wilkes Barre would go on a 14-2 run to extend their lead to 18. Late in the first half, Williams scored a layup and on the ensuing possession Stevenson hit a three to push their lead to a first-half high of 24 points.
In the first two games against Southern Maine CC and Penn State York, Robert Hobson (6'5''-G/F, college: Benedict) of Johnson & Wales scored 32 points, with 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Collectively Hobson and All-tournament selection Kajuan Madden-McAfee (5'11''-PG) shot 56.6% from beyond the arc in their quarter-final and semi-final games. Penn State Wilkes Barre held the two to 28% and slowed the pace of the Wildcat scoring attack. Meanwhile, the Lions got outstanding production from their bench, outscoring Johnson & Wales 35-16 with their reserves.
Madden-McAfee finished the title game with 18 points to lead the Wildcat offense. He added a game-best seven assists to go along with five rebounds and three steals. Majerle Poole posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Under the leadership of USCAA Coach of the Year LeShawn Hammett, Penn State Wilkes Barre finishes their title season 18-1 in conference play with an overall record of 25-5.

| Oakwood Wins Men's Division I National Championship, Fourth in School History - Mar 10, 2019 |
Uniontown, PA - Sophomore forward Edmen Stewart (6'6''-F)'s 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks led the way for the Ambassador's narrow victory Saturday night at the 2019 USCAA Men's DI Basketball National Championships.
An 8-1 run in the first four minutes set the pace for Oakwood before a three-pointer from USCAA All-American Korey Williams (5'9''-PG) woke up the Bluefield State College offense. The Big Blues would chip away slowly down the stretch, with the Ambassadors not scoring a field goal in the final 2:40. Oakwood entered halftime with a 26-22 lead, Bluefield staying in the game despite 32% shooting from the field and only 13% from beyond the arc.
A Joseph Adeyemo (6'7''-F/C) dunk two minutes into the second half gave Bluefield their first lead of the game. There were four lead changes over the next four minutes until the 15 minute mark when Bluefield went on a run. The largest lead the Big Blues had was six points, but they kept that lead until just under 7 minutes remaining when Stewart (Tournament MVP) made two free throws. Stewart was clutch throughout the game, making 7 of 8 from the charity stripe.
Bluefield State would quickly take back the advantage, keeping the lead until the :56 second mark when Xavier Jones tied the game on a layup. All-Tournament selection Korey Williams was fouled on the ensuing possession and made one of two from the line to retake the lead for Bluefield. Ambassador All-Tournament selection Talik Talton (6'5''-F) followed up on a missed layup on the other end to take the score to 58-57 in Oakwood's advantage. Bluefield failed at the following two possessions to score, giving Oakwood their fourth institutional title and their second in the last four years.
Williams was the leading scorer for Bluefield State, knocking down 21. He also had four steals in the contest. For the Ambassadors, Mike Middleton (6'4''-F-79, college: Central Mo.) was the second leading scorer, adding 11 points and 3 assists to the championship effort. As a team, Oakwood shot 40% in the game, with 14 points coming off the bench.
