Covenant Wins USA South Title - Feb 29, 2016

The 2016 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament championship game took place on Saturday, February 27 on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina as second-seeded Covenant defeated fourth-seeded LaGrange, 101-92, in overtime, to capture the program's first tournament title.
LaGrange started fast, scoring the game's first six points and building a 12-5 lead. Covenant battled back to take its first lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half. The Scots would close the half on a 12-2 run to lead by ten at the break. That lead would be extended to as much as 19 points with 13 minutes to play before LaGrange started its comeback. The Panthers used nearly all of that time to even the score and ultimately forced overtime on a layup with three seconds remaining. In the extra period, Covenant used an 8-0 run to push ahead for good and capture the championship.
Covenant was led by TJ Cox (5'10''-PG) who scored 21 points and dished out a game-high eight assists. For his efforts during the three days of the tournament, Cox was named Most Valuable Player. The Scots also had contributions from Berto Dryden (6'0''-G), who scored a team-high 22 points with five rebounds and four assists, and Bailey Spragg (6'1''-G) who tallied 14 points. LaGrange was led by Mark Wagner (6'0''-PG), who scored a game-high 26 points, and with Alex Bonner (6'3''-G), who notched a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds.
