The 2017 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament championship game took place on Saturday, February 25 on the campus of Averett University in Danville, Virginia as fifth-seeded LaGrange defeated second-seeded Methodist, 75-56, to capture the program's third tournament title in the past four years. In the first half, neither team established large advantages as there were several ties and lead changes with LaGrange holding a slim one-point edge at halftime. With the game tied at 44-44 six minutes into the second stanza, the Panthers used a 9-0 run to grab the lead for good. The Monarchs clawed back to within six points with eight minutes remaining but LaGrange endured the rally and cruised to the finish line. LaGrange was led by Alex Bonner (6'3''-G) who scored a team-high 17 points with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. For his efforts during the three days of the tournament, including hitting the game-winning shot with two-seconds remaining in the Panther's first round contest, Bonner was named Most Valuable Player. Additionally, Andrew Vanderbrook (6'8''-F) contributed a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for LaGrange. Methodist was led by Davion Ayabarreno (6'4''-F) who scored a game-high 19 points and Rae Hall (6'1''-G) who tallied 16 points and a game-high five assists.
