Bandits recorded a loss in Edmonton on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Stingers 91-78. Edmonton made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Edmonton outrebounded Vancouver 51-37 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American center Dain Dainja (206-2002, college: Memphis, agency: Shark Sports Management) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds. The other American import guard AuDiese Toney (198-1999, college: Arkansas) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Stingers' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Jaelen House (183-2001, college: N.Mexico) produced 27 points and 4 assists for the guests. Stingers is looking forward to face Vancouver in Langley in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Bandits will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Toronto. Shooting Stars saved a 2-point victory at home edging Sea Bears 103-101 in the game for the first place. American guard Myles Powell (188-1997, college: Seton Hall) orchestrated the victory by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 6 assists. Frank Mitchell contributed with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Teddy Allen (198-1998, college: NM State) replied with 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Winnipeg. Sea Bears' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Shooting Stars will play against Saskatchewan in Saskatoon in the next round. Sea Bears will play at home against Niagara and hope to get back on the winning track.
An exciting game was played in Hamilton. Honey Badgers faced Surge. Host Honey Badgers smashed guests from Calgary 91-72. Sean East II had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners. Tre Scott responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Honey Badgers will meet Ottawa on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Surge will have a break next round.
Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
