Regular Season Round 17: Ottawa - Niagara 87-89

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Blackjacks (12-5) in Ottawa on Thursday night. Hosts were edged by third ranked River Lions (9-7) 89-87. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Blackjacks. Antonio Davis (190-1996, college: Mid-Continent) stepped up and scored 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and center Eddie Ekiyor (206-1997, college: Carleton) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). River Lions' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Sudanese-Australian forward Deng Adel (201-1997, college: Louisville) responded with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and British-Canadian Thomas Scrubb (199-1991, college: Carleton, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Five River Lions and four Blackjacks players scored in double figures. River Lions have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 9-7 record having four points less than leader Ottawa, which they share with Scarborough. Blackjacks at the other side still keep top position with five games lost. River Lions will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Blackjacks will play again on the road against River Lions in Niagara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
