Regular Season Round 15: Niagara - Scarborough 98-89

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Niagara. Third ranked River Lions faced 4th placed Shooting Stars. Host River Lions (9-6) defeated guests from Toronto (7-6) 98-89. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Shooting Stars. River Lions made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when River Lions made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Khalil Ahmad (191-1996, college: CS Fullerton) who led his team to a victory scoring 31 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. His fellow American import forward EJ Onu (211-1999, college: Shawnee St.) helped adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward David Muenkat (201-2000, college: St.Francis X.) with 21 points and 9 rebounds and Canadian center Kalif Young (206-1997, college: Providence) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. River Lions have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Winnipeg. Loser Shooting Stars dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. River Lions will again meet Shooting Stars (#5) in the next round. Shooting Stars will play against the league's leader Blackjacks and hope to secure a win.
