Regular Season Round 9: Brampton - Calgary 93-80

The biggest surprise took place in Hamilton where host Honey Badgers (5-4) beat league's leader Surge (6-4) 93-80 on Wednesday evening. Honey Badgers made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Koby McEwen (193-1997, college: Weber St.) who scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Zane Waterman (203-1995, college: Manhattan) chipped in 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Simi Shittu (208-1999, college: Vanderbilt) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds and guard Stefan Smith (188-1999, college: St.John's, agency: Players Group) added 16 points and 10 assists respectively. Five Honey Badgers and four Surge players scored in double figures. Surge's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Scarborough. Surge at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Winnipeg. Surge will play next round against River Lions trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Honey Badgers will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Stingers in Edmonton.
