Date: June 18, 2023
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Honey Badgers (4-4) and Shooting Stars (3-4), which took place in Toronto. Higher ranked Honey Badgers were outleveled in a road game by ninth ranked Shooting Stars 93-73 on Sunday. Shooting Stars dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Honey Badgers' 42. Shooting Stars forced 21 Honey Badgers turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Shooting Stars made 7 blocks. The winners were led by American point guard Anthony Barber (188-1994, college: NC State) who scored that evening 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and center Kalif Young (206-1997, college: Providence) supported him with 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Shooting Stars' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by guard Cody John (190-1996, college: Weber St.) did not help to save the game for Honey Badgers. American forward Jeremiah Tilmon Jr (208-1998, college: Missouri, agency: Diamond Sports) added 15 points for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shooting Stars moved-up to eighth place. Defending champion Honey Badgers dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Vancouver and Niagara. Shooting Stars will meet at home higher ranked Stingers (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Honey Badgers will play against the league's leader Surge and will have a slim chance for a victory.
