The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Surge as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Surge defeated 4th placed Blackjacks in Calgary 86-79. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Surge looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Power forward Simi Shittu (208-1999, college: Vanderbilt) stepped up and scored 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and guard Stefan Smith (188-1999, college: St.John's, agency: Players Group) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Canadian-Jamaican guard Kadre Gray (186-1997, college: Laurentian) responded with 21 points and 5 assists and American guard Michael Flowers (185-1999, college: WSU) scored 17 points. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Winnipeg. Blackjacks at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Brampton. Blackjacks will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Surge will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Rattlers in Saskatoon.
