Top rankedLiberty (11-4) recorded its fourth loss in New York City on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked Mercury (12-4) 106-91 . It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Phoenix M. looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Alyssa Thomas (188-1992, college: Maryland) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 9 rebounds and 15 assists. German forward Satou Sabally (193-1998, college: Oregon) chipped in 25 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Breanna Stewart (193-1994, college: UConn) produced 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Jordanian-American point guard Natasha Cloud (178-1992, college: St.Joseph's) added 14 points and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mercury have an impressive six-game winning streak. Phoenix M. maintains second position with 12-4 record having just one victory less than leader Minnesota L. Defending champion New York L. still keeps top place with four games lost.
