   Brock captures CIS title
Brock - Acadia 64:61

The Brock Badgers celebrated a dramatic win over the Acadia Axemen in the CIS Championship Final yesterday to claim the National title. It was the second title in the Badgers' school history and the first one since 1992. In front of more than 8,000 spectators at the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa the Badgers put on a sizzling performance in the second half to pull away with a difficult win over the brave Axemen. Mike Kemp (188-G-80) and Ken Murray paced Brock in the opening frame and the Badgers got to a 14:7 lead after 10 minutes of action. But Acadia were not about to give up that early. Leonel Saintil (196-F) dropped couple of vital buckets and the Axemen fueled a 16:4 run to step ahead 24:18 late in the frame. Acadia did not stop and accounted for 7 last points in the half to accumulate a 31:21 lead at the long break. Brad Rootes (178-G-84) was the main figure on the Badgers' squad in the third period as his 8 points allowed Brock to square things up after 30 minutes at 51. Acadia stayed up by a single point with less than two minutes left. But 4 straight points from Dusty Bianchin (201-F/C-80) carried the Badgers to the National title. Mike Kemp toscored with 23 points for Brock. Owen White (201-F-80) had 12 points and 9 boards, while Brad Rootes and Scott Murray (183-G-84) added 8 points apiece for the winners. Paulo Santana (183-G-84, college: Southeastern CC) answered with 18 points for the Axemen. Shawn Berry (196-F, college: Sauk Valley CC) scored 14 points and Leonel Saintil dropped 12 in defeat. Brock outmuscled the Axemen on the boards 40:29 and committed just 9 turnovers. Both teams struggled in accuracy as Brock converted 36% and Acadia sank 37%. Mike Kemp earned the MVP title for the Badgers, while Angolan import Paulo Santana received Player of the Game honours for the Axemen.

Brock: Mike Kemp 23, Owen White 12+9 boards, Brad Rootes 8, Scott Murray 8
Acadia: Paulo Santana 18, Shawn Berry 14, Leonel Saintil 12
