After almost four weeks off, the Legacy was ready to get their season back on track. But they ran into a Raleigh team that was clicking on all cylinders. Coming into the game undefeated in league play, the team from Raleigh proved too much for the Legacy, with the home team falling 121-112 Saturday night in Tobacco Road Basketball League action.
The first quarter saw the Legacy jump out to an 8-3 before the Revolt began to flex its muscle, ending the quarter on a 29-15 run to take the lead (32-23) going into the second quarter. The second proved a little better for the Legacy, closing the gap to 4 points before halftime. The first half for the Legacy saw Jamario Clayton drop 15 points and J'Mell Walters 16 points. Raleigh saw Charles Gamble score 20 points, going 7-10 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line to close out the first half.
The Bull City Legacy came out of halftime determined to stay in the game but after going for just 47% in the third compared to Raleigh's 76% for the quarter, the night would be long. The game got testy in the quarter as Bull City Legacy coach Andre McCollum received a technical foul for expressing his frustration. In the quarter Raleigh would see seven players score, led by 9 points from newly acquire Malachi Jones. Bull City would get contributions from 5 players, with Ian Gregory and Brian Streeter scoring 6 points a piece. The Raleigh Revolt would lead at the end of the third quarter up 94-77.
The fourth quarter would get exciting as the Bull City Legacy would close the gap behind 13 points from J'Mell Walters, who led all scorers in the game with 34 points, going 13 of 18 from the floor for 72% on the game. The Legacy would get down 15 points during one stretch of the fourth quarter, only to get back in the game and cut the deficit to 5 points (98-93) before the Revolt would go on a 23-19 to hold off the Bull City final push to upset the league champions.
The Revolt was lead by Charles Gamble's 30, Brandon Hickson's 24, Malachi Jones 22 and Daniel Jackson's 17. The Legacy got tremendous effort from J'Mell Walters 34, Jamario Clayton's 18, Ian Gregory' 17 and 14 points from Brian Streeter.
Raleigh improves to 5-0, while Bull City drops to 2-5 in TRBL League play. Bull City takes on High Point Heat on January 23 in Durham, NC while Raleigh will prepare to host its first home game January 31 in a rematch against the Legacy in Raleigh.
