Randolph-Macon Ties ODAC Record for Men's Basketball Titles with Fourth Straight Championship-Feb 27, 2023
SALEM, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College held off a hard charge from Guilford College in the second half to post a 61-48 victory in Salem on Sunday and collect the program's fourth straight ODAC men's basketball championship.

The Yellow Jackets (27-1), now tied with Hampden-Sydney College and Roanoke College at 10 men's basketball championships all-time, receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship set to begin next weekend. Announcement of the tournament's 64-team bracket is set for Monday, February 27 at 1:00 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

Randolph-Macon's four consecutive ODAC titles are just the second instance of such a streak in league history. Roanoke College lifted seven straight trophies from 1981-87.

Guilford (22-6) appeared in the fifth ODAC title game in program history. The Quakers left Salem the previous four times with league hardware in 2008, 2010, 2017, and 2019.

Tournament MOP Daniel Mbangue (6'4''-F) led the Yellow Jackets in scoring for the second time in three games in Salem. He posted a game-high 18 points with seven rebounds and two assists. Mbangue shot 20-of-27 (74.1%) from the field on the way to scoring 53 points for the tournament. He added 20 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Teammate and fellow All-Tournament Team member Josh Talbert (6'2''-G) added 10 points with six boards, five assists, and three steals against Guilford. Miles Mallory (6'5''-F) joined them on the ATT. He went for seven points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots in the final.

Guilford was led by Tyler Dearman (6'3''-G) with 16 points to go with five rebounds. He earned All-Tournament status along with Julius Burch (6'3''-F). Burch posted six points and 12 rebounds with a pair of assists. He reached double figure rebounds in each game -- 10, 14, 12 -- finishing with 36 overall.
