MIAA crowns Hope as Tournament Champion - Feb 27, 2022
The No. 1-seeded Hope College men's basketball team was crowned the 2022 MIAA Tournament champion after notching a 76-68 victory over No. 2-seeded Calvin University at DeVos Fieldhouse on February 26.The Flying Dutchmen have an overall record of 22-6, including a 12-2 mark in regular-season play. In the championship matchup versus the Knights, Evan Thomas (6'4''-F) had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while also going 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Thomas additionally dished out a game high of four assists. Clayton Dyhouse matched Thomas with a game-best 20 points. Tanner Wiegerink (6'7''-F) scored in double digits with 13 points and blocked a game high of four shots. Hope tallied 39 rebounds, 10 blocks, 10 assists, and went 16-of-20 (.800) in free throw attempts. The Knights (20-8 overall, 11-3 MIAA) were led by Luke Morrison (6'5''-G/F) who tallied 17 points, along with Alec Fruin (6'4''-G) (14 points) and Thad Shymanski (6'1''-G-1998) (10 points) who also scored in double digits. Fruin grabbed a team-best 10 boards which earned him a double-double for the game. Uchenna Egekeze (6'4''-F) blocked a team high of three shots. Calvin concluded the contest with 42 rebounds, eight assists, seven steals, and six blocks.
