Trine Edges Albion to Earn MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament Title - Mar 15, 2021
The No. 1-seeded Trine University men's basketball team was crowned the 2021 MIAA Tournament champion after edging No. 2 Albion College 64-62 at the MTI Center. The Thunder concluded the season on March 6th with an overall record of 17-0 and a conference record of 5-0.Sophomore Brent Cox (6'6''-F) led the Thunder with a game-high 21 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Junior Bryce Williams (6'5''-G) also scored in double digits with 14 points. Classmate Aiden Warzecha (6'3''-G) dished out a game best of six assists. Trine had a 15-12 edge in assists. After a 10-point deficit at the end of the first half, the Thunder came back for the win. Albion had the largest lead of the contest at 12 points. Junior Cortez Garland (6'0''-PG) led the Britons with a team-high 19 points, including 4-for-7 from long distance and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe. Senior Caden Ebeling (6'7''-F) (13 points) and classmate Juwan Perry (6'2''-G) (10 points) also scored in double digits, while Perry contributed eight boards for Albion. The Britons led 39-25 in boards and had a free-throw percentage of .739 (17-of-23).
