No. 1 Western Connecticut Claims 2020 LEC Title with 88-75 Win over No. 2 UMass Dartmouth - Mar 1, 2020
Top-seeded Western Connecticut State University used a 9-2 run midway through the second half to go ahead for good as the Colonials recorded an 88-75 victory over second-seeded UMass Dartmouth Saturday to win the 2020 Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Basketball Tournament title, and with it the LEC's automatic berth in the 2020 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. FOR THE RECORD: The Colonials improved to 20-7 after capturing the sixth LEC tournament championship in program history. WestConn is now 6-2 with the LEC title on the line, and claimed its first conference title since 2005. The Corsairs season ended at 16-11. MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER: Western Connecticut senior forward Fenton Bradley (6'7''-F), Jr. was named the 2020 LEC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He scored 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor while pulling down 10 rebounds in the LEC tournament final win over UMass Dartmouth after netting 21 points with five boards in the Colonials' semifinal victory over fourth-seeded UMass Boston. WESTCONN LEADERS: Bradley was one of five players to score in double figures for the Colonials. Junior guard Shea Tracy (6'3''-G) led the way with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor and a 3-for-5 performance from three, while junior guard Legend Johnson (6'2''-G) netted 12 points off the bench. Sophomore guard Ahmod Privott (6'3''-G) shipped in with 11 points, while freshman forward Jaheim Young (6'4''-F) netted 10 points and grabbed seven boards. UMASS DARTMOUTH LEADERS: The Corsairs had all five starters score in double figures, led by 13-points efforts from senior forward Harry Alexander (6'5''-F) and junior guard Jake Ashworth (6'1''-G). Sophomore guard Marcus Azor (6'0''-PG) and sophomore forward Sean Leahy (6'5''-F) added 12 points each.
