United Repeat As NBL-US Champions - Sep 23, 2021 For Immediate Release- The East Houston United Capped off another undefeated season in the NBL-US with it's second straight championship. After the Covid19 shortened season in 2020 East Houston United finished off the playoff run with a 101-83 victory over the Marietta Rockets in the Championship game. The United was led this season by new Head Coach Tim Gutierrez who was an assistant coach since the team begin play in 2018. Gutierrez picked off where coach Kevin Williams left off leading the United to it's second straight undefeated season. The United defeated the Baytown Bobcats in the Championship game winning the season series 4-0. Another Successful season in the NBL-US is complete and the teams will get prepared for the NBL-US Winter League that begins play in January, 2022 in Houston, Texas. Jerry Dancer Named NBL-US MVP, Kevin Waters Named Coach of the Year - Sep 23, 2021 For Immediate Release- September 23,2021 Today the NBL-US announced their 2021 Post Season Awards. Just as predicted in the Preseason Kevin Waters https://basketball.usbasket.com/coach/Kevin-Waters/Jacksonville_Giants/15098 led the Fort Lauderdale Herd to the Eastern Conference Championship in the Herd's first season in the NBL-US. Waters is no stranger to Minor League Basketball leading the Jacksonville Giants to multiple championships in the American Basketball Association (ABA). In his return to Minor League basketball he put a dominate Fort Lauderdale Herd team together that went 9-1 in the regular season. Waters was the NBL-US preseason pick for Coach of the Year and he did not disappoint on the sidelines as players gave him great reviews on his coaching style being a players coach. Jerry Dancer was named MVP/ Defensive Player of the Year for the first time in his storied minor league basketball career. The Waco, Texas native broke his own three point record knocking down eleven three pointers shattering his own record from the 2020 season when he hit seven three pointers against the same Bexar County Bucs team. Dancer also broke the NBL-US scoring record scoring 51 points when the United needed it the most. Dancer was also called on all season to guard the best player on the opposing team holding some of the top scorers in the league below their season average. Dancer was the leader of a United team that went undefeated for a second straight season winning back to back NBL-US Championships. When asked about winning MVP and Defensive Player of the Year Dancer was quoted as saying " I set a goal at the beginning of the season to win defensive player of the year. I took pride in shutting down the opposing teams best player. I've been known to get buckets but this year, I got buckets and made sure the guy I was guarding didn't get his".
