We bring you last week's top former Bulldogs players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Experienced champion Angel Matias, a 6'5'' forward at 33 years old, graduated from Georgia South in 2015. He previously played at Mississippi Gulf Coast between 2011 and 2013 before turning professional in Puerto Rico. In a recent game, he played a crucial role in Cangrejeros de Santurce's victory over the third-ranked Santeros with a score of 108-93 in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional last Saturday. Matias displayed his talent by scoring 18 points, securing 6 rebounds, and providing 3 assists in just 17 minutes of play.
Cangrejeros de Santurce, currently placed fifth in Group B with a record of 10-12, achieved their fourth consecutive victory with Matias leading the charge. His remarkable performance against Aguada, where he scored 18 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists, exemplified his prowess as a finalist. Throughout the season, Matias has maintained solid statistics with an average of 10.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in the 21 games he has participated in so far.
It is noteworthy that Matias holds dual American and Puerto Rican citizenship, allowing him to compete as a domestic player in Puerto Rico. His consistent contributions and standout performances on the court underscore his status as a champion in the Puerto Rican basketball scene.
#2. Raymond Cintron, a 6'0'' guard who is 36 years old, is an alum of the Blue Raiders class of 2013. He previously played at Mississippi Gulf Coast between 2010 and 2011, where he received the NJCAA D1 All-Americans Second Team award. Currently, he is playing professionally in Puerto Rico.
During a recent game, Cintron was unable to lead the Osos de Manati (8-14) to victory over the Cangrejeros (10-12) in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Despite his efforts, his team fell short, losing 87-92 on the road to the higher-ranked Cangrejeros, who hold the fifth position in Group B. Cintron had a modest performance, scoring only 2 points in 12 minutes of play.
In another game against Santurce, Cintron contributed 2 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. However, his individual performance was not enough to secure a win for his team. Throughout the season, Cintron has been averaging 2.9 points per game in the 19 games he has participated in so far.
It is interesting to note that Cintron holds both American and Puerto Rican citizenship, allowing him to play in Puerto Rico as a domestic player. Despite some challenging games, Cintron continues to showcase his skills on the court as he competes in the Puerto Rican league.
