John A. Logan wins first ever DI Men's National Title-Mar 26, 2023
Hutchinson, KS - John A. Logan took home the 2023 NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Championship title inside the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The No. 1 seeded Vols defeated reigning national champions Northwest Florida State 73-70.
John A. Logan received the No.1 seed after a two-loss season and boasted a 27 game winning streak entering the national tournament. John A. Logan finished the season with a 33-2 record and won four games in six days en route to the national title. The 2023 title marked the first in program history.
Curt Lewis (6'5''-G) led the offense with 18 points while Quimari Peterson (6'1''-G) was close behind with 15 points.
Northwest Florida State led most of the first half with a score of 43-39 after 20 minutes of play. Chad Baker-Mazara (6'7''-G/F-2000) led the Raiders with 12 points going into halftime.

First title for the Vols
The 2023 national tournament marked the sixth appearance in program history for John A. Logan. This was the Vols' first time ever appearing in the championship game.
The Vols received a first-round bye to begin the tournament. Under the leadership of first-year head coach Tyler Smithpeters, John A. Logan defeated No. 16 Monroe College 105-85 in the second round of the 2023 NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Championship tournament.
In the quarterfinal round, John A. Logan defeated No. 8 Midland with a score of 74-70. In the semifinals, the Vols defeated No. 12 Tallahassee 94-89.

Quimari Peterson earns MVP honors
John A. Logan's Quimari Peterson was awarded the William French Most Valuable Player award. The sophomore guard scored 58 points during the national tournament. He also had 18 rebounds and 20 assists over four games in Hutchinson.

All-Tournament Recognition
Dodge City's Chris Robinson (6'2''-G) was named the Bud Obee Outstanding Small Player Award recipient.
The award is presented annually to the player displaying good character, leadership, and loyalty to his fellow players and coaches with special consideration given for defensive ability.
Indian Hills (IA) received the Charles Sesher Sportsmanship Award.

12 student-athletes from 10 teams were named to the 2023 NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team.
