Every week we bring you a list of the top former Roadrunners players who continue their career in pro basketball.
#1. Christyon Eugene, a 6'3'' guard who is 25 years old, graduated from Troy in 2024. He previously played for Angelina JC between 2019 and 2020, where he helped them become the NJCAA D1 Mid-South District Champion. Currently, he is playing professionally in Serbia. In a recent game, Eugene played for FMP BG but unfortunately could not lead his team to victory against BC Vienna in the AdmiralBet ABA League. Despite scoring 6 points in 21 minutes and putting up a solid performance with 3 rebounds and 1 assist, FMP BG lost 84-92 at home to the lower-ranked BC Vienna, marking their third consecutive loss. Eugene's season statistics show that he averages 7.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in the 26 games he has played so far this year.
#2. Tayvion Johnson, a 6'7'' forward and 26-year-old alum of the Mustangs from 2023, showcased his skills in the NJCAA D1 Mid-South District Champion team while playing for Angelina JC between 2019 and 2020. Currently, Johnson is a professional player in the TBL. In a recent game, Johnson, now a member of the Willamette Valley Jaguars (#4), faced the formidable 4 Bears Roar. Despite his noteworthy performance of scoring 8 points, grabbing 3 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists in 28 minutes, the Jaguars were defeated 136-115 on the road. This loss marked the team's third consecutive defeat. Johnson's season averages of 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game highlight his contribution to the team. Although Johnson's efforts were commendable, the Jaguars fell short against the 4 Bears Roar, resulting in a loss for the team.
#3. Yosani Clay, a 6'4'' guard who is 25 years old and graduated from WOU in 2023, previously played at Angelina JC between 2018 and 2019 before starting his professional career in Brazil. Despite his best efforts, Clay, a standout player, could not lead Cruzeiro Esporte Clube Basquete to victory over the formidable Minas in the Brazilian Novo Basquete Brasil. In the game, he showcased his skills by scoring 7 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing out 2 assists in 20 minutes of play. Unfortunately, his team suffered a close 94-99 defeat against the higher-ranked (#3) Minas in Belo Horizonte.
Throughout the season, Clay has been averaging 7.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game across 37 games. It is worth noting that his participation in the Eurobasket Summer League was instrumental in helping him secure a professional basketball opportunity. Despite the loss to Minas, Clay's performance on the court continues to impress, demonstrating his potential as a future champion.
#4. Travis Henson, a 6'7'' small forward and 27-year-old alumnus of Roadrunners (class of 2023), showcased his exceptional basketball skills during a recent game in the German BARMER 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProA league. Despite playing for SBB Baskets Wolmirstedt, a team currently ranked 15th in the league, Henson proved to be a major contributor in their thrilling 80-79 victory over the fifth-ranked Artland Dragons. This impressive win marked his team's third consecutive triumph.
Henson's remarkable performance included scoring 14 points in just 20 minutes of play, further solidifying his reputation as a champion player. His valuable contributions extended beyond scoring, as he also grabbed 2 rebounds and delivered 1 assist during the game. These statistics, coupled with his season average of 13.9 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per game in 18 appearances, highlight his significant impact on the team.
Having previously played for Angelina JC and helped them clinch the NJCAA D1 Mid-South District Champion title in 2020, Henson's transition to professional basketball in Germany has been noteworthy. As he continues to excel in his third season in the pros, his talent and dedication are evident in each game he plays. With only one more critical game remaining in the Regular Season, all eyes will be on Henson as he aims to lead his team to another victory and further establish himself as a finalist player in the league.
