Howard clinch Division I title - Mar 21, 2010 Howard College - Three Rivers CC 85:80 (OT) Howard College clinched the first Division I title in school history. They outscored Three Rivers in the championship game in Hutchinson. The clash turned into a real basketball thriller with the outcome decided in the extra period. Howard College managed to come back from a 10-point second half deficit to force overtime. There the Hawks dominated and posted a historic victory at the end. Jae Crowder tallied 27 points and 12 boards to lead the winners. Josh Watkins knocked down 26 points and was named the tournaments MVP. Three Rivers led throughout the bigger part of the game. The Bulldogs enjoyed an 8-point halftime advantage. They stretched the margin at 10 points with less than five minutes to go. But Lamont Austin (5'11''-G) and Josh Watkins triggered a comeback rally in the dying minutes as the Hawks forced the extra frame. Lamont Austin posted 14 points for the winners. Marquise Carter answered with game-high 35 points for Three Rivers. Aloysius Henry had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Howard College set a new record for fewest turnovers in NJCAA tournament game as they committed just 9 of those. Lincoln celebrate first Division II title
- Mar 21, 2010Lincoln College - Cincinnati State Technical & Community College 71:60 Lincoln College wrote history yesterday. The Lynx shot down Cincinnat State to earn the first ever Division II title in school history. Kiel Turpin knocked down 21 points to pace the winners. The teams stayed very close in the opening minutes. Illya Glover proved the difference late in the first half as he gave the Surge a 26:23 advantage. But DeMarius Sumrell helped the Lynx got back on track as they drew things level at 29 twenty minutes into the game. The game stayed close after the long break. Kiel Turpen gave the Lynx a 43:38 lead early in the second half. Lincoln maintained the advantage for some time before Cincinnati worked their way back in front. They capitalized on several turnovers from Lincoln and pulled ahead 57:55. Lincoln reacted immediately and went on a 10:0 rally to bounce back. Cincinnati State were able to trim the distance to 5 points but it was as close as they could get. The Lynx stayed calm in the final seconds and clinched a historic victory at the end. DeMarius Sumrell provided 18 points for the Lynx. Kenyon Smith (6'0''-F) added 11 points for the winners. Illya Glover responded with 17 points for Cincinnati State. Rayshawn Goins netted 15 points in the losing effort. Joliet Junior College wins NJCAA DIII
Championship - Mar 14, 2010NJCAA DIII Final: Joliet Junior College, Ill. - Rochester Community and Technical College, Minn. 94-82 The 2010 NJCAA Division III Mens Basketball Championship was held for the last time at SUNY Delhi. SUNY Delhi has been home of the championship for the past 20 years. The match up consisted of the two top teams, the Rochester Yellowjackets and the Joliet Wolves. Right from the start Joliet won the tip putting them at the advantage. Both teams struggled with point blank shots in the opening minutes. Wolves Jon Bartlett (6'9''-C) picked up his team with multiple three-point shots and rebounds. Demetrius Williams (6'2''-G/F) helped out the Yellowjackets with impressive steal and lay-up. The contenders answered each others three-point field goals and impressive defensive plays ending the first half with the Rochester Yellowjackets on top of the Joliet Wolves 42-39. Both teams entered the second half with the desire to win the 2010 Mens NJCAA Championship. Throughout the second half Shiron Williams (6'1''-G) of Rochester dazzled Joliets defense scoring 17 points. Reggie Lemon (5'8''-G) from Joliet stealed the ball from the offensive team and made a lay-up to tie the game crushing the spirit of Rochester. The Wolves took a 6-0 run over the Yellowjackets, but Brandon Milde (6'4''-F) stopped them from going any further ahead.
