Five-star recruit Mikayla Blakes, an Indiana women’s basketball recruiting target, committed to Vanderbilt Monday afternoon. Ranked No. 10 by ESPN in the class of 2024, Blakes chose Vanderbilt over the Hoosiers, as well as Stanford, UCLA, Rutgers, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Over the summer, Blakes played for the Philly Rise on the under-17 Nike EYBL circuit. In 17 tracked games, Blakes averaged 19.6 points, shooting 107-for-227 (47.1%) from the field and 36.7% from 3-point range. Blakes posted only eight turnovers, and also compiled 25 steals. Blakes attends Rutgers Prep in New Jersey, the third-ranked high school varsity girls team in New Jersey, according to MaxPreps. Last Saturday, Rutgers Prep crushed No. 4 Montclair Immaculate, 89-62. Blakes scored 33 points with eight rebounds, per Jersey Sports Zone. Blakes is now another top-30 class of 2024 prospect that the Hoosiers missed out on. In late October, No. 27 forward Zania Socka-Nguemen chose UCLA over the Hoosiers and three other programs. For the class of 2024, Indiana has national letters of intent signed by Sydney Fenn and Faith Wiseman. Both are forwards, and the latter is No. 56 on ESPN’s list. The 2025 class has guard Maya Makalusky from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers.
