OU Women's basketball commit Keziah Lofton surpassed milestone- December 13, 2023Keziah Lofton walked to center court to applause from the home fans. Her family joined her soon after, and Bethany's coach, Eric Sailer, arrived with the framed picture that stood in place of a trophy. The entire group wore a big smile on their faces. The Oklahoma 2025 commit became the ninth guard in Bethany girls basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points. And on Tuesday night, she was awarded for her achievement in front of the home crowd. Just a junior, Lofton became one of the youngest players to earn the award. “It meant a lot, it’s been a goal of mine forever, so,” Lofton said. “It was nice to get it my junior year. I wanted to get it at the end of my sophomore year but I didn’t get that so the first game of the year was good enough for me.” Lofton came into her junior year just eight points shy of the accomplishment. She accomplished that in the first game of the season in a 49-34 win over Kingfisher. “And then to have my whole family,” Lofton said of the ceremony. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, obviously; they helped me get there." After overcoming a broken hand in her freshman season, she really turned added points in her sophomore season. Before Lofton's sophomore season, Bethany had yet to make a state tournament appearance. The OU commit helped Class 4A Bethany win its first girls basketball state championship to go along with a 29-1 record. Lofton averaged 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and steals per game en route to the title. She announced her commitment to the Sooners on Sept. 4, 2022, the start of her sophomore year, after receiving offers from Kentucky, Michigan, Florida State, and Ohio State, among many other Division I schools. It didn’t take much convincing because Lofton, too, has always wanted to don the crimson and cream. On a night of her celebration, Lofton turned in 18 points in just over three-quarters of play in an 88-21 win over Chickasha on Tuesday night in Bethany. The Bronchos are 4-1 this year. “We wanted to set the tone,” Lofton said. “It was our first home game, we knew we’d have a big crowd because the little girls came out here. So, we just wanted to do really good and play as a team. We hit a lot of shots close to the rim, we did really good.”
