One year removed from winning the inaugural State Champions Invitational, the Quakers defended their title and repeated at the national postseason tournament. Sidwell Friends defeated Lone Peak (Utah) 50-46 early Saturday in the finals of the 2023 State Champions Invitational. After traveling to Florida last year for the tournament, the Quakers only had to drive three miles down the road to McDonough Arena at Georgetown University to go back-to-back this year. Sidwell Friends entered as the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the No. 5 team in the SBLive Power 25 national rankings. Lone Peak came in as the No. 2 seed and No. 11 team in the country. Kendall Dudley, who committed to UCLA following the semifinals victory, paced Sidwell Friends with 21 points, four rebounds, three steals and one assist. Standout freshman Jayla Jordyn Jackson added nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sidwell Friends led by 14 at halftime but went cold offensively in the third quarter, scoring just two points as Lone Peak fought back to make it a three-point game. The Knights managed to make it a one-point game early in the fourth quarter, but the Quakers answered with a run of their own to secure the win.
