Kaukauna girls new No. 1 in area high school basketball rankings

Here is the fourth edition of the Post-Crescent girls and boys basketball rankings. Rankings are "pound-for-pound" with positioning determined by success and enrollment size.
GIRLS

1, Kaukauna (10-0): Ghosts elevated to top status after beating Germantown 86-77 last Wednesday and with Neenah's loss to Hortonville on Saturday. Next: Thursday vs. Fond du Lac.
2, Hortonville (10-1): Polar Bears bounce back from Kaukauna loss on Dec. 16 with back-to-back wins over West De Pere (72-52) and Neenah (60-59). Next: Friday vs. Appleton East.
3, Neenah (10-1): Rockets drop another spot in rankings after close 60-59 loss to Hortonville. Next: Friday at Oshkosh North.
4, Freedom (8-1): Sadie Jarmolowicz leads the team in scoring (14.3) with Kierstin Kriewaldt also clearing double digits (10.1). Next: Friday at Marinette.
5, St. Mary Catholic (10-1): Zephyrs' win streak hits five after 73-35 victory over Coleman last Thursday. Next: Jan. 10 vs. Sheboygan Christian.
Others: Fox Valley Lutheran (8-1), Brillion (8-1), New London (8-1), Chilton (7-2), Appleton North (6-3), Menasha (6-4), Appleton East (6-5), Kimberly (5-5), Wrightstown (5-5), Shiocton (5-5).
