Inside the Workout: A Conversation with Tyleel Graham- April 24, 2025Inside the Workout: A Conversation with Tyleel Graham After NBA/G League Scout Workout at the Portsmouth Invitational with ECBL Basketball Operations Manager George Mcleod .
As the East Coast Basketball League (ECBL) continues to build its reputation as a proving ground for elite basketball talent, one of our own recently earned an opportunity that many athletes dream of. Mr. Tyleel Graham, standout Power Forward for the Petersburg Cavaliers, was selected to participate in a personal workout with NBA and G League scouts during the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT), an annual showcase of top NCAA senior talent and professional prospects. Following his return from Portsmouth, I had the chance to sit down with Mr. Graham and talk through the experience, how it stacks up to ECBL competition, and how it has shaped his perspective and goals. Here’s what he had to say: McLeod: What was the biggest takeaway from your workout with NBA and G League scouts? Graham: "My biggest takeaway would be there is never enough intensity. Every day is a real opportunity to get better, and that was one big moment I could showcase the effort I’ve put into the game." McLeod: How did the level of intensity and competition compare to what you’ve experienced in the ECBL? Graham: "I feel it compared very well, but the ECBL only falls behind intensity-wise because there aren’t any subs when your limbs are begging for oxygen—lol." McLeod: Did any of the scouts give you specific feedback or advice? If so, what did they highlight? Graham: "Yeah, I did have the opportunity to be told what needs to be worked on moving forward and where my strengths lie. They highlighted my athleticism and ability to defend." McLeod: What was your mindset going into the workout, and how did you prepare for it physically and mentally? Graham: "Going into the workout, I was locked in knowing this was a real opportunity to showcase work that I’ve been putting in with my trainer, Marvin Rodgers. Preparing for it was intense because every workout beforehand was treated as a chance to readjust the bar and achieve higher. I stayed faithful to my routines." McLeod: How has this experience motivated you or changed your goals moving forward? Graham: "Moving forward has become clearer. I had the chance to meet and collaborate with so many successful people in the game, and they’ve reassured me that my hard work will shine through as long as I build upon my game." McLeod: Anything else you’d like to add? Graham: "Never miss out on an opportunity to do better and never stop dreaming. Prepare and give it your best so there’s no regrets." Tyleel Graham’s journey is a testament to what the East Coast Basketball League stands for—opportunity, exposure, and growth. His dedication, humility, and hunger for success reflect the spirit of what we strive to build in this league. We're proud of Mr. Graham, will be watching closely as his journey continues to unfold.
