Zombies Impressive in Season Opener- March 14, 2021
The Western Mass Zombies opened up the 2021 ECBL basketball season on the road against the Red Rose Thunder Saturday night in Lititz, PA. This is the first time these two teams have played both defecting from the ABA as a seven team swing that moved over to the ECBL. The Thunder who hosted the Zombies started their season with two big back to back wins on the road last week against the Plaistow Shockers in New Hampshire. The Zombies starting their third pro season took the five hour drive to Pennsylvania Saturday morning and out of the gate started firing on all cylinders. Right from tip-off the Zombies jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game and the Zombies never looked back. By the end of the first half the Zombies scored an incredible 86 points going into the locker room with a 23 point lead. The second half the Zombies did not let off the gas pedal putting up an addition 67 points. The Zombies (1-0) left Pennsylvania with all twelve players making the scorebook with a 153 to 124 win over the Thunder (2-1). These two teams will meet up again in Springfield, MA on Saturday, May 1st at the South End Community Center. The Zombies shot over 60% for the 3-point line and leading the way for the Zombies was Tyler Desrosiers (6'2''-G, college: Post) scoring 40 points finishing with 11 of 13 behind the arc. Newcomer Malik Petteway (6'8''-F-97, college: RMU) finished with 21 points pulling down 24 rebounds and adding 5 blocks. Veterans Tylon Smith (6'2''-G-92, college: S.Connecticut, agency: Interperformances) finished with 22 points, 5 assist and 3 rebounds and Rashad Robinson (6'2''-G-84, college: Liberty) coming off the bench was on fired picking up 25 points knocking down six 3-pointers. 'We had a great team win with all 12 players contributing on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. The team chemistry is coming together and guys were extremely unselfish on offense by making the extra pass when necessary. There are some areas where we can improve on but it was a great start to the 2021 season'' said Coach Brian Stasaitis. The Zombies (1-0) will be back in action on Saturday, March 27th against the Shockers (0-2) in Plaistow, NH. The Zombies home opener will be on Saturday, April 3rd with a 2pm tip off at the South End Community Center.
