Last week the league was notified that the Spa City Gamblers would be opting out for the 2021 season due to the severity of the restrictions in the Saratoga Springs area. While the ECBL is sad to lose EJ Gallup and the Gamblers we understand his situation completely and are hopeful that things start to improve in his area so life in general can get back to some normalcy before we even think about basketball.
"The door is wide open and EJ will be more than welcome back to the ECBL if he chooses to return in the future," said ECBL President Chris Thomas.
Two other teams, the Binghamton Bulldogs and the West Chester Wildcats, have both been removed from the ECBL.
"We all came into this together with great expectations and hopes to make it work out for everyone, but as we all know things don't always go as planned," said Thomas. "Our league is ran as a group unit, by the owners and board with everyone having a say in what we do. We will be moving forward with the Shockers, Zombies, Thunder, Raiders, Cannons, Hogs, and Grizzles."
Over the next month the ECBL will look at the possibility of adding partner clubs to the northern region. If we find teams that are in the footprint of the current seven teams and can meet the league requirements they will be considered for the 2021 schedule.
