Regular Season Round 9: Scarborough - Edmonton 88-83
Date: June 22, 2023
There was a small surprise in Toronto where sixth ranked Shooting Stars (5-4) defeated 4th placed Stingers (4-4) 88-83 on Thursday. American point guard Anthony Barber (188-1994, college: NC State) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import center Kyree Walker (198-2000) chipped in 19 points. The best for the losing side was American forward Nick Hornsby (201-1995, college: Sacramento St.) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and Brody Clarke (203-1996, college: Alberta) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Five Stingers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Shooting Stars have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Brampton. Loser Stingers dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Niagara. Shooting Stars will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Stingers will play against Honey Badgers (#4) in Hamilton and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
