Barry's late three gives Sewanee its first-ever SAA title - Feb 26, 2019

A three by Michael Barry (6'0''-PG) with two seconds remaining lifted the Sewanee men's basketball team to its first-ever Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Men's Basketball title. It is the first league championship in men's basketball overall since 1997. The Tigers, who were seeded third in the tournament, topped host and top-seed Centre 62-59 inside a full Alumni Gymnasium.
Sewanee, 22-6 overall, earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and will make its first appearance in the Big Dance since 1998. A back and forth game throughout, Centre, rallied back to take a six-point lead, with 1:43 to play, after Perry Ayers hit a jumper.
However, on the ensuing Tiger possession, Luke Smith (6'0''-PG) of Sewanee hit a deep three to pushed the deficit back to a possession. Sewanee tied the contest at 59-59 when guard Hunter Buescher (5'10''-PG) hit a three.
From there, Tucker Sine (6'2''-G) of the Colonels missed a jumper that was grabbed by Smith. That would set up the drama before the buzzer after Sewanee called timeout with five seconds remaining.
Despite the loss, Centre, who could receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, will await its fate with a 23-5 record.
