Morrisville State defeats SUNY Poly to take 2019 NEAC crown - Feb 25, 2019

After battling through a tight first half, Morrisville State pulled away in the second half to defeat SUNY Poly by a score of 91-73 in the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship game on Sunday at Morrisville State.
Sunday marked the Mustangs' fourth-straight appearance in the NEAC Finals and the team's second title in three seasons. Morrisville State, who has earned an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament, has won the conference championship five times since 2012.
SUNY Poly came out of the gate with a ton of energy driven by back-to-back three pointers from Redell Freeman (5'9''-PG) (Rochester, N.Y.) within the first two minutes. Morrisville State took the lead on a three-point shot from Justin Mitchell (6'2''-G) (Newburgh, N.Y.) with 12:59 left in the first half as the Mustangs found their footing and were able to take a 44-40 lead into the half. Despite the back-and-forth first half, the Mustangs came out in the second to shoot 59.3 percent from the field to extend their lead and secure the win.
Morrisville State had four players hit double-digits on Sunday with Lamel Faison (5'10''-PG) (Brooklyn, N.Y.) leading the way with 20 points. Mitchell finished with 19 points for the Mustangs while Kevin Dennis (6'4''-F) (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up another double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore forward Brison Hall (6'2''-F) (Syracuse, N.Y.) was named Tournament Most Valuable Player after totaling 32 points and 22 rebounds on the weekend, which included 18 points and eight rebounds off the bench in the championship game.
Freeman had an outstanding game for SUNY Poly with a game-high 32 points, which included his 1,000th career point. The Wildcats' senior guard hit the career milestone in just two seasons at SUNY Poly. Sophomore forward Josh Gregory (6'6''-F) (Whitesboro, N.Y.) also contributed 14 points for the Wildcats.
