SUNY Delhi Captures ACAA Men's Basketball Championship - Mar 1, 2019

SUNY Delhi overcame a 13-point, second-half deficit to defeat Alfred State 77-75 and claim the ACAA Men's Basketball Championship.
The first half started out with Delhi racing to a 7-point lead (9-2) after almost five minutes of play, but about four minutes later the Alfred State held a one-point lead. From that point until the end of the half neither team held more than five-point advantage with the lead changing hands on a regular basis.
Slowly Alfred State expanded their lead to as many as 13 by the 10:13 mark of the second half. But the Broncos did not give up and started chipping at the lead. The lead was down to two points (69-67) when Delhi's William Knight (5'10''-PG) hit a jumper at the 5:17 mark. The Pioneers again expanded their lead to as many as 8 at the 3:35 mark but Delhi ran again and at the 1:37 mark Jordan Fragale (5'10''-PG) hit one of two free throws to tie the game, the first time Alfred State had not led since the game was tied at 1:15 left in the first half. The Pioneers then turned the ball over on a shot clock violation on their next trip down the floor and Delhi missed a field goal, but got the offensive board and called a timeout with :24.2 left on the clock. Fragale missed a shot, but again Delhi got the rebound and hit the basket with 2.7 seconds left on the clock and a 77-75 lead. Alfred State inbounded the ball and quickly called a timeout with 1.8 seconds left on the clock. A field goal fell short as time expired.
SUNY Delhi was led by Fragale with a tournament-record 27 points, including the game-winner for the second day in a row on 11 of 22 shooting from the floor. Justin Doud scored 13 points while Payton Dean had 10 rebounds to go with eight points.
Lewis led Alfred State with 23 points and a tournament-record 15 rebounds. Juwan Tolliver added 14 points and seven assists while Dante Jordan (6'6''-F) had 13 points.
