INDIANAPOLIS - Belgian combo guard Hind Ben Abdelkader has signed a free agent contract to join the Indiana Fever, it was announced today by Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman.

A native of Brussels, Belgium, Ben Abdelkader has been a star on the European scene since she was a teenager and attended the University of California as a freshman in 2013-14. She returned to Europe, however, and has blossomed at every level of international, FIBA and domestic league action. The high-scoring, sharp-shooting guard has shot over 40 percent from 3-point range the past two seasons.

The 5-8 guard currently plays with Hatay in the Turkish League, where she starts alongside WNBA stars Courtney Paris and Leilani Mitchell. Ben Abdelkader leads the club with 17.2 points per game in the Turkish League, and trails only Paris among team scoring leaders in EuroCup action, with 16.0 per game. Just 22 years old, she ranks ninth in scoring in the Turkish League, fourth among European players and just behind Fever guard Erica Wheeler (17.6, 5th).

Ben Abdelkader averaged 5.0 points per game as an NCAA freshman at Cal and has played professionally in Spain, France, Poland and Turkey since. She was honorable mention all-league in the French League in 2016, and last year she led Wisla to the Polish League finals. She was named the MVP of the Polish Cup as Wisla won its mid-season tournament of top Polish teams. In the Turkish League this winter, Hatay is presently in third place with Ben Abdelkader named the league's player of the week after a season-high 34 points against Istanbul University.

Internationally, she has been a part of Belgian national teams since 2010, at the age of 16. She was the MVP of the U16 European Championships in 2011 and since that time, has been the Belgians' top scorer in every European Championships competition in which she has participated, including a 22-point average at the U20 European Championships in 2015.
