Johnson
The Dallas Wings re-signed two-time WNBA All-Star Glory Johnson (6'3''-F-90, college: Tennessee) to a multiyear contract on Monday. Johnson sat out last season while she was pregnant with twins, which were born in October. 'It means a lot,' Dallas coach Fred Williams said of the signing. 'She's a player who's already proven in the league. It's nice to see she wants to be back with us in Dallas.' Johnson has averaged 13.7 points, 8.3 rebounds in her career. Williams doesn't expect the long layoff to affect Johnson much. 'It's my job and the staff's job to get her ready,' Williams said. 'She's got a big cushion there in training camp. For me it's like having money in the bank.' Johnson will have to sit out the first seven games of the season as the league suspended her last year for her domestic violence arrest at her Arizona home. Johnson, who said she was the victim of the altercation, was not charged. Former Baylor standout Brittney Griner (6'8''-C-90, college: Baylor), whose marriage to Johnson last May lasted less than a month, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and complete a domestic violence diversion program. 'We are thrilled Glory will be re-joining the Dallas Wings as we enter our first year playing in the DFW Metroplex,' said Wings president and CEO David Swatzell. 'Glory's return solidifies our frontcourt and adds another proven performer to our roster. We believe Glory will play an integral role this season as our young and dynamic team competes for a WNBA Championship.' The 25-year-old Johnson made the all-rookie team in 2012 and the league's all-defensive team in 2013. She was the fourth pick in the 2012 draft by Tulsa after a successful career playing for Tennessee. The Wings' regular season begins on May 14. Their first home game is on May 21 against San Antonio. Johnson's first game would be against Washington on June 8.
