The Santa Barbara Breakers have been invited back to play a 10 game tour throughout China September 9-26. The Chinese Government contacted Breakers President Curt Pickering in April about returning. Pickering gave their Sports Federation Director, Mr. Li, an immediate affirmative response. The Breakers took two trips to China during the Fall of 2008, recording a 6-5 record during the first tour, and a 2-5 mark on the second tour. All games were played against professional teams from China's prestigious CBA league. The games against the Breakers serve as an exhibition season for teh Chinese teams, preparing them for the long travel and grueling season conducted November thru May each year. Logging double duty as Head Coach and building the team roster (Player Personnel Director), Pickering is spending many hours scouring various Leagues such as the NBDL, WCBL, ABA, PBL and Mexican Professional Teams. He also traveled to Las Vegas in July for the NBA Summer League, which yielded 22 NBA teams with roster players who knowingly will not make the parent squads. 'There are many great players out there, some who fit the opportunity to play in China, showcase themselves and play against great competition. At worst, they experience one of the most amazing countries in the World. So, it is my job to locate 12 players who will bring their A Game and represent the Breakers and the City of Santa Barbara in the most professional manner,' says Pickering. Three Breaker players have been selected so far for the team: Tim Taylor (6'3''-G-82, college: Wayne St., NE), Leonard Mosley (6'5''-G-82, college: Oklahoma Baptist) and Jeremy Vague (6'9''-F/C-79, college: Utah St.). 'The Chinese Government has made it clear how much they enjoyed our entertaining value with last year's tours but also informed me that they want us to dominate the competition in the 2009 Tour. So, that is why I am 'looking outside the box' and turning over every stone for the best talent we can put together,' says Pickering.
