Ikechukwu
Diogu
Sichuan Blue Whales (CBA) landed experienced 34-year old Nigerian international power forward Ikechukwu Diogu (204-116kg-83, college: Arizona State) from Jiangsu Tongxi Monkey Kings. In 26 CBA games in China he averaged impressive 25.0ppg, 11.1rpg and 1.1apg last season. It was a very successful year in his career as he League Player of the Week.
He received also Afrobasket.com All-Afrobasket Championships 1st Team award in 2017.
The previous (15-16) season Diogu played at Guandong Tigers where in 44 CBA games he had very remarkable stats: 20.3ppg, 9.4rpg and 1.2apg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. He can count that season as a very successful as was selected to Asia-Basket.com All-Chinese CBA Honorable Mention and League Player of the Week.
In 2005 Diogu was drafted by Golden State Warriors (NBA) in first round (9th overall). The former Arizona State standoutis in his 13th (hopefully lucky) season in pro basketball.
Diogu won Puerto Rican BSN championship title in 2014.
He has a double citizenship as he also holds Nigerian passport.
Diogu represented USA at the Afrobasket Championships this year. His team won Silver and his stats at that event were 6 games: Score-1 (22.0ppg), Reb-3 (8.7rpg), FGP: 57.4%, 3PT: 45.2%, FT: 80.0%.
Diogu is a very experienced player. And here thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in four different countries playing on three different continents. He is familiar with Asian, Latin American and of course North American leagues. Diogu has played previously professionally in NBA (New Orleans Pelicans, LA Clippers, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings), Puerto Rico (Leones and Capitanes) and NBA G League (Northern Arizona Suns).
He is described as: Good low-post game… Great footwork… Good hands… Long arms… Lacks height and athleticism.

Mexico stuns US in World Cup qualifying, 78-70 - 20 days ago
Jeff van Gundy warned the Americans that they were in for a serious challenge. To his chagrin, he was right, and the U.S. was handed a rare loss. Francisco Cruz (190-G-89, college: Wyoming) scored 24 points, Mexico opened with an 18-0 run and went on to beat the United States 78-70 on Thursday night in a qualifying game for next year's FIBA World Cup. According to USA Basketball, it was just the second loss by the U.S. in 30 games against Mexico - with the other defeat coming in the 2011...   [read more]
