Texas, May 31, 2009 Jermaine Barnes of the Dallas Ft. Worth Disciples is the winner of the Mac Claire Trophy as the 2008-09 URBL Most Valuable Player, the URBL announced today.
Barnes totaled 830 points, including 25 first place votes, from a panel of 30 coaches and owners throughout the URBL.
Rounding out the top five in voting for this seasons award were DFWs Jerome Boyd (2 points), Irvings Rick James (2 points) and Converse's Geoff Harner (1 points).

Barnes finished the season ranked first in the league in scoring at 41.5 ppg, having shot .519 from the field, .840 from the free-throw line and .461 from three-point range. In addition, Barnes added 10.9 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 5.1 steals per game. The 6-5 guard led the Disciples to the best record in the URBL (17-3) and a URBL Championship. 'I just want to thank my teammates and Mac Claire for this award', said Barnes.

The URBL MVP trophy is named in honor of the owner Mac Claire, the first commissioner of the URBL.

Jermaine Barnes, a native of Atlanta, GA was a stand out at Atlanta Christian College were he was Named NCAA Division 3 National Player of the Year(06). Also Named 1st Team All-American and led the nation is scoring with a 26.4ppg average. After a very successful collegiate career, Barnes took his show to Japan(Proline Kings). Barnes was again the top scorer averaging 48.2ppg and winning Aichi League Most Valuable Player. Barnes led the Proline Kings to the All-Japan Championship (were Barnes posted his unforgettable 63 point game), it mark the first time a JBL3 team has made it to All-Japan.

Barnes is now signed with Low Country Sports Management (agent: Corey Washington), which Barnes will be the first player in the URBL to go overseas. Barnes has recently signed to play in The Middle East (team not to be named). To top it all off Barnes has also signed an endorsement deal(shoe and cloths) with Hang Time Sports (Owner: Jerone Dodd). 'Hang Time Sports has the best shoes and cloths in Japan. Mr. Jerone Dodd made me a deal I couldn't refuse, I'm honored to be apart of the team'.

When asked about people who have help him along the way Barnes just laughed, followed by a....'where do I start', said Barnes

The former Atlanta Christian player Will De La Cruz (6'2''-G-80) signed wit the ABA. He agreed on terms with the ABAs Georgia Prowl. The Prowl is the expansion team that is scheduled to take the start in November. They will be located in Atlanta, Georgia. The 28-year-old Will De La Cruz was among the best performers of the URBL last season. The guard was named to the NCAA Division 3 HM All-American Team in college. Kearse finished the season 2008-09 with SISU CPH in the Danish Canal Digital Ligaen averaging 22.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.8 assists per game in 29.8 minutes per game on the court. He finished the regular season as the second scorer with 22.5 PPG, seventh rebounder with 8.3 RPG, fifth in steals with 2.7 SPG, while he is also sixth in the number of fouls drawn per game.
