Six new outfits from USA, Lebanon, England and Spain to join the Liga Mediterranean Cup of Champions

The Liga Mediterranean Cup (MCC) has made a three-point play as it is set to increase its roster from four teams last season to six for the upcoming tip-off in May.

On Friday, England side Sheffield Bulldogs announced their decision to join the MCC2018 after withdrawing last season due to British rules. The new club first signings were locals Anthony Oxley (174-PG-86, college: Mount Aloysius) and Richard McNutt (203-F-86, college: Mount Aloysius). Oxley one of the more popular Englishman in the country after joining the American based Universal Basketball Association for the GIE Maile Matrix. The sharp shooter from Sheffield was named Eurobasket.com All-MediterraneanTeam last summer. McNutt a 6'8 swingman was also apart of the British National team in 2012 with Oxley. Legendary coach Jonny Kelly will represent the English club as head coach.

The New Paper understands that a team from USA, believed to be from Louisville, will also take part, along with NCAA's Columbus State University, who are making their debut in international play. Louisville Diesel will be led by UBA All-Star Will Richard (190-G-84). The Diesel play in the Universal Basketball Association. The Cougars are led by legendary head coach Robert Moore . Last season Moore was named NCAA Peach Belt Coach of the Year.

The two teams will represent the local Barcelona clubs in the Mataro area. Mataro Parc Boet Club of the EBA will be the hosting team. The club will be represented by Alberto Pena (head coach). Star guard Marc Rubio (186-G-88) (older brother of Ricky Rubio (193-G-90)) will be in attendance for Mataro Parc Boet. Aracena - AEC Collblanc La Torrassa will also join Mataro Parc Boet as the second Spanish Club to join 2018. Aracena - AEC Collblanc La Torrassa will spotlight local forward Lluis Jacas (198-F-90). In 2014 he was named Eurobasket.com All-Portugal Player of the Year.

Last addition, the Chabibeh Sporting Club of Beirut. President Fadi Tabet announced last week that the Lebanese club will add five import players which include Steffon Bradford (198-F/C-77, college: Nebraska) (France), Brent Petway (205-F/C-85, college: Michigan) (Turkey), Cory Bradford (191-SG-78, college: Illinois) (Bosnia), Keith Closs (224-C-76, college: Cent.Conn.St.) (China) and Jermaine Barnes (193-G/F-83, college: Point, GA) (Lebanon). Which this import line up the Beirut club quickly becomes a favorite in the event. National Team guard Mitchell Tabet (179-PG-00) has been named a late addition to the club (2000).

Going into its fifth season, the MCC may go through a format change that could see the introduction of two divisions in which the top teams from each group will advance to the championship.

Group A: Chabibeh, Louisville Diesel, Mataro Parc Boet

Group B: Columbus State, Sheffield Bulldogs, Aracena - AEC Collblanc La Torrassa

Date: May 24-28, 2018
