Charlotte Elite 127 Cary Invasion 123

Nobody was predicting a runaway game for either side but if they had walked in Herb Young during the 1st quarter that's what they would have thought they were seeing. Charlotte jumped out to an early 12-0 lead then finished out the quarter leading Cary by twenty. Despite the combinations Cary Head Coach Erasto Hatchett put on the floor the Invasion were simply out-of-sync. But after the quarter break something happened and the home team Invasion began to whittle away at the Elite's lead eventually, and with two-minutes left in the 3rd quarter, taking the lead for the first time in the game. However Charlotte was not discouraged and, with the lead see-sawing through the 4th quarter, played the Invasion to an exciting 112-112 tie at the end of regulation. But Charlotte's trip back home would include a victory, outshooting Cary 15-11 in overtime, securing the Elite's 127-123 win.
Although the two teams showed balance on the stat sheet, Charlotte took the lead in rebounding, three-pointers and shooting from the line, while Cary clearly took the lead in sinking shots from the field.
Stand outs for Charlotte included team high point man Marin Barrett accounting for 26; Ryan Carter (6'0''-G, college: Johnson C. Smith) and Ryan Scott (6'4''-G/F-81) each followed contributing 18-points apiece; and adding 17-points to the Elite's total was Terrone Sheffey (6'1''-G, college: Belm.Abbey). Also scoring in double digits were Shaun Kirkland (191-G-84, college: Wingate), Octryious Roebuck and DJ DJ Blackmon (193-G, college: Cochise CC).
Game high scorer was veteran shooting guard Paul Wright (188-G-85, college: Mountain St.) of the Invasion with 14-field goals (2-threes), and a total of 31-points. The majority of Cary's remaining points came from guards James Barbee (178-PG, college: Point, GA) (17), Mike Smith (19), Raheem Jallife (17) and Jeffery Legree (183-PG) (14). Of note was Smith's 9-of-11 accuracy from the line.
Next up for Charlotte (4-6) is a trip to Durham's Bull City Legacy (2-5) next Saturday night, while over in Cary the Invasion (7-4) will play their annual mid-season exhibition game against the Cary Police Department. All proceeds from that game will benefit Dorcas Ministries Emergency Relief Fund.

Bull City Legacy outgun Cary Invasion - 2 Years ago
As is tradition, arch rivals the Cary Invasion and the Bull City Legacy opened their respective seasons last Saturday, this time in Durham at Voyager Academy and, in what has become their tradition, both teams gave those attending a show. These two teams really don't care for each other much, but that they do respect each other's game is apparent. This due, in part, to both teams carrying players on their rosters who used to play for the other team. While, too, many of them have been team...   [read more]
