Huntersville Hoopforlyfe had their first home opener of the new year Sunday against the Wilmington Sea Dawgs at Lake Norman Charter School. Although Hoopforlyfe was on their home court, where they played strong last season, the Wilmington Sea Dawgs showed why they are the powerhouse of the East, coming into this game with a 7-1 record. The Sea Dawgs jumped on Hoopforlyfe fast by controlling the boards on both ends of the court, out rebounding Hoopforlyfe 10-5. By the end of the first period, the Wilmington Sea Dawgs were leading 35 to Huntersville Hoopforlyfe 23.

Going into the second period, Wilmington continued to run their offense through leader Marco Spears, who played a great game, leading all scorers for the Sea Dawgs with 33 points and 10 rebounds. Hoopforlyfe made some adjustments in the second period to get themselves back into the game by feeding the ball down low to big Mark Carson who played big around the rim with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Huntersville found themselves back in the game by the end of the half down only by 5, Wilmington 61 and Huntersville 56.

Wilmington remained hot and relentless on the boards and kept attacking Huntersville which had no answer on how to slow them down. Damieon Baker got the hot hand for the Sea Dawgs with a game total of 26 points and 8 rebounds. It looked like this game was clearly over for the powerhouse team in the West (Huntersville Hoopforlyfe) until their floor general Dijuan Harris stepped his game up by dropping 19 points, dishing out 13 assists and grabbing 7 rebounds. This cut the Sea Dawgs down by 1 at the end of the third.

Going into the fourth, Dijuan inspired his teammates to step their game up as well as play harder and leave it all on the floor. Keith Gabriel's 21 points and Jamal Durham's 17 points and 10 rebounds still wasn't enough to stop the Wilmington Sea Dawgs for closing out this game 124 to 121; handing Huntersville Hoopforlyfe their 1st home court lost. Huntersville remains the powerhouse team of the West with a 4-2 record and will to travel to Wilmington on January 17th (Sunday) to face off the powerhouse team of the East (8-1 Sea Dawgs) again but this time, on the Sea Dawgs home court.

Bull City Legacy outgun Cary Invasion - 2 Years ago
As is tradition, arch rivals the Cary Invasion and the Bull City Legacy opened their respective seasons last Saturday, this time in Durham at Voyager Academy and, in what has become their tradition, both teams gave those attending a show. These two teams really don't care for each other much, but that they do respect each other's game is apparent. This due, in part, to both teams carrying players on their rosters who used to play for the other team. While, too, many of them have been team...   [read more]
