The NWBL Championship game between the Colorado Chill and the San Diego Siege definitely lived up to the hype with the Chill successfully defending its title with the win over the incredibly powerful and sharp-shooting Siege, 78-71, in front of almost 2000 fans at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.
The Siege began the game by reeling off 6 points before Natasha Gamble (6'0''-F-83, college: Alabama) made a free throw for the Chill with over 2 minutes gone in the game. The Chill didn¬īt score a field goal until just less than 2 minutes left in the first quarter. However, the Colorado team went into the locker room at halftime up by 2 after a stunning second quarter in which it held the California squad to only 12 points while scoring 19.
Erin Scholz (6'2''-F-75, college: Colorado) contributed greatly in the second quarter by pulling down 4 successive rebounds.
The fourth quarter began with the Chill leading by 1 point, 50-49, then the game became the Jamie Carey (5'6''-G-81, college: Texas) show when she led the team by scoring 2 successive 3-pointers and finished the game with 17 points. When Carey cooled off, Becky Hammon (5'6''-G-77, college: Colorado St.) picked up at the free-throw line and was 6 of 6 in the final quarter. Hammon totaled 22 points in the contest. Ruth Riley (6'5''-C-79, college: Notre Dame) (6'5''-C-79, college: Notre Dame) led all scorers with 24 points. Courtesy of NWBL.

The Most Valuable Player of the game was Ruth Riley (6'5''-C-79, college: Notre Dame), and Jamie Carey (5'6''-G-81, college: Texas) was named to the All Tourney Team.
