Sean Coffey
John Mullane has been hired as an assistant coach for the Utica College men's basketball program. Mullane will assist Head Coach Sean Coffey with all aspects of the program including recruiting, scouting, practice and game preparation, along with day-to-day operations in the office. Mullane comes to Utica after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass. Alongside Head Coach Brian Cerone, he helped guide the Mustangs to 27 victories in two years. In 2016-17, Mount Ida posted 17 wins and made an appearance in the GNAC Conference Tournament, advancing to the semifinals, while hosting the program's first home playoff contest. His coaching experience includes recruiting, game and practice plan preparation, in-game coaching, and he also held administrative duties such as designing strength and conditioning programs for the Mustangs. Part of his graduate assistant duties at Mount Ida included spending time planning and developing the College's intramural program, while also supervising student employees. During his time at Mount Ida he was pursuing his master's in management with a leadership in sport concentration. Mullane is no stranger to the Empire 8 Conference as he spent four years as a member of the Elmira College men's basketball team in his undergraduate days. He was an Empire 8 Rookie of the Week selection in his freshman season and also earned the College's Athlete of the Week honors in the following seasons. He played in 82 career games at Elmira and started all 25 games in his senior season. He graduated in 2016 with a degree in Business Administration. John attended King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, Massachusetts from 2010 to 2012. He was a vital starting member of the varsity basketball program, guiding King Philip to a Division 2 State Semifinal appearance. In his senior season he was an all-league selection and helped set the program record for wins in a single season.
