UW-Platteville Wins Men’s Basketball Tournament Crown-Mar 5, 2025
University of Wisconsin-Platteville posted an 89-68 victory over UW-La Crosse to win the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament (presented by Culver’s) at Bo Ryan Court at Williams Fieldhouse on Feb. 28. UW-Platteville (25-2) won its second straight tournament title and fifth in program history. The Pioneers also secured the conference’s automatic NCAA bid. Against UW-La Crosse (22-5), the Pioneers turned a 10-9 deficit with 12:27 remaining in the first half to a 39-20 advantage with 2:23 left before halftime. UW-Platteville's defense limited the Eagles to just 8-of-28 (28.6%) shooting in the first 20 minutes, forcing five turnovers and blocking three shots. After leading 41-28 at the start of the second half, Logan Pearson (6'3''-F) and Brady Olson (6'0''-PG) contributed to the Pioneers increasing the lead up to 22 just four minutes into the second half, and a three-point make by Aiden Wieczorek (6'3''-G) pushed the gap to a game-high 25 at 62-37 with 14:34 remaining. The Pioneers continued to find success from beyond the arc, as Pearson, Olson, and Ben Probst each connected on triples over the next several minutes to keep the lead hovering around 20 before the final horn sounded. Five Pioneers finished in double figures, led by Pearson's 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Olson added 15 points with a team-high five assists, while Probst (13), Joey Fuhremann (6'8''-F) (12), and Lewis (11) joined them in double digits. Fuhremann also grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds, while contributing three assists. UW-Platteville shot 52.4 percent (33-of-63) for the game and 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers also shot 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the free-throw line. JJ Paider (6'7''-F) posted a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double to pace the Eagles, while Dustin Derousseau (6'3''-G) added 14 points. Carter Capstran, forward from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, was voted to the First Team at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Dustin Derousseau, guard from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse, was selected to the First Team of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
He was also chosen to the Defensive Team.
Among many awards Derousseau's team was the regular season runner-up in the WIAC in 2023.
He was selected as the All-WIAC Honorable Mention in 2024.
Sam Grieger, guard from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse, was named to the First Team at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Grieger's team was the regular season runner-up in the WIAC in 2024.
Carter Huschka, forward from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, earned a spot in the First Team of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
He was also voted to the Defensive Team.

He was selected to the D3hoops.com All-Region 9 Third Team in 2024.
Zac Johnson, guard from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, was selected to the First Team at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
He played in the final of the WIAC Tournament in 2024.
Max Love, forward from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville, was chosen to the First Team of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Love's team won the WIAC Tournament in 2024.
JJ Paider, forward from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse, was named to the First Team at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Paider's team was the regular season runner-up in the WIAC in 2023.
Andre Renta, point guard from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, earned a spot in the First Team of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
